Screenwriting Teacher

"I've read all the books and went through a whole screenwriting certificate program, but none of it touched what I learned with Heather Hale in just a few short weeks. Heather is so insightful and she gives all her heart and soul to her students and their work - it's so obvious how much she cares. The greatest thing about a class with Heather is that you walk away a better writer."

Heather is an awesome teacher who is most interested in helping you become a better writer. She doesn't just focus on theory but on getting to the heart of the story. Her structural techniques are very helpful and give writers a solid foundation for a sound story with all of the elements in a successful screenplay.

"The amount of detail provided by the consultation service was vastly superior to any that I have used before and I will not hesitate to contact Heather on my next project. She tore the script apart and gave indispensable advice on every topic from structure to formatting issues that strengthened every aspect of my script. I am confident that by heeding her advice on this project I will generate a strong rewrite but more importantly, I will begin my next script a better writer in general."

When I finished my script I asked Heather Hale to read it and give me advice. This was the best thing that I could have done, because her comprehensive evaluation was invaluable. She understood my story concept and worked with that. She gave me many good ideas to help make concepts clearer. Heather also, indicated what was good as well as what needed work, which is something that is often overlooked in evaluations. She followed this up with two phone calls where she listened and discussed my script with me. She included little things that I thought I had correct but didn't. Using her comments to guide me through the re-write process, I am already seeing a much better script. I will, without a doubt, ask her to help me with my next script.

A completely enjoyable and informative class. I utilized what I learned from Heather that very evening! An excellent investment of my time and money!

Remarkable person. Three hours was just the beginning...she seemed ready and able to go on for another three at least. Impressive and generous... possibly the two qualities that make her an ideal networking expert. Would recommend her to anyone.

“I didn’t even see Heather speak, but I learned a ton as an audience member by proxy. I edited the DVD of her presentation to the NorthWest Screenwriters Guild and while not a writer, I'm an up and coming filmmaker (a techie/shooter) and she answered all the questions that were at the forefront of my thoughts - and I wasn't even there to ask them! I appreciate what it is to network and "schmooze" but I had no idea (until watching the raw footage of her) where to start and how it all worked. We all know that the Indie has to "do it all" - or at least understand the various aspects of the industry in order to gather friends, co-workers and fellow filmmakers to fill in with strength the areas you know and accept as your own weaknesses. I really enjoyed and appreciated all that she said during her appearance (on my editing system) - just watching it was thanks enough for my editing favor. Truly, it was exactly what I was looking for."

"Heather’s "Power Networking" presentation was insightful and fun - the highlight of the Great American Pitch Fest weekend for me. And just days after the pitch fest, she actually got my sitcom pilot directly into a couple of Show Runner’s hands!”
- Serge LeBlanc, Valencia, CA

“ I just wanted to thank you for the networking workshop, which I thought would be a waste of my time because I hate all that I think "networking" usually means - but you were great. You reconfirmed that making movies is about building relationships not just passing out business cards.”

Heather’s FAB PowerNetworking seminar was a fun, gentle kick in the you-know-what, to keep me out there with renewed vigor.
Her energy and awesome social skills really pumped it up a notch. There is no shame in my game now. She reinforced a lot of things I already do (but felt a bit undercover about), plus tossed a scad of new techniques into the mix. I really appreciate it and will employ it with my win-win philosophy. Make no mistake, Heather has a real talent for schmoozing and teaching -- and has a better network than Sprint!

PowerNetworking was so useful. It provided me with ideas, new networking techniques and the impetus to think more strategically about who I want to meet, when and why. I've already started setting up an excel database of talent and others to cross-reference who is connected to my "dream team."

PowerNetworking is the class I've always wanted to find. I thought Heather handled it superbly from beginning to end. In fact, many of the questions I came there specifically to ask were answered during the course of her talk. Now when I get shy or nervous meeting people I just think "Pull a Heather Hale!" and all of a sudden I hear myself talking. It's a great feeling!”

"I really enjoyed the class. Most of what was discussed I 'know' but making knowledge into habit is always a challenge. In my opinion, focusing on developing networking habits for three hours is an invaluable investment for either seasoned professional or a fresh-faced beginner. I was really impressed by the organizational ideas and new research tools you covered - not to mention your dedication to networking. Really impressed."

Heather possesses a keen understanding of how the entertainment industry operates. She was invaluable in helping me construct a game plan to define and reach my target audience in the most efficient, effective manner possible. Not only did Heather demystify the art of schmoozing, but she also provided me with the tools to overcome my fear of cold calling industry folks."

New to LA, as a former New York CEO, Heather helped me hit the ground running here and filled my calendar with fun and interesting worthwhile ways to discover all the opportunities here and meet great new people along the way (VIP events, exclusive venture capitalist cruises, social and educational events). She knew all the people, where the hot spots were and who and what would be worth my time. She really accelerated and enhanced my networking at the right level on a new coast – and saved me a lot of time.

We all know this is a relationship business and in my work as a producer and educator, I have so many times found myself in the small-world scenario that converges on one name: Heather Hale. As a meta-networker myself, I have never met anyone as lightning quick on the speed dial as Heather.
Heather's site has drawn together people from every zip code in the zeitgeist that is LA (ie: networking is a verb and we are its henchmen). In between throwing parties, readings, giving workshops, writing, developing and a thousand other tasks, Heather finds time to keep her site hopping and humming with up to date news and ideas.a sort of Craiglists meets Friendster meets IFP meets...well TheIndustryLA. It's where all roads meet and interesting people and ideas and minds meet to spark and realize projects and relationships."

I have never met Heather Hale. In fact I live ten thousand miles away at "the end of the earth" in Australia. Yet Heather's friendship, support and network have been invaluable to me. I have secured a Hollywood manager through her site, I have "met" key industry people through her site, and now my first US launch has been secured I am heading over to Los Angeles later this year.

I admire Heather Hale as a friend, writer and a great party event planner. She offers so many fun events through her website, TheIndustry.LA. I had no idea that when I attended her Oscar Party on Feb. 29th, 2004 at The 9000 Lounge in Beverly Hills (with about 600 of Heather's friends!) that I would walk away with a wonderful new friendship with Jeff Iorio, a Producer, Writer, Director, and Investor from New York who has proven to be an amazing mentor to me since then.

Hi Heather!!!!!

This is a cool trend me sending you Thank You's every month.

I just heard back from (Name and Co removed) and my (A list Performer removed) comedy got a grade of CONSIDER and was passed along to the director. (He) also went on to mention that my script was one of only two that received that grade.

How How How in the name of God do I thank you?

Your genuine belief in my talent and my commitment to making this dream happen stuns me beyond words. Your kindness and passion for our craft is like a beacon that will guide so many to realize their dream and I am truly blessed to have been given the honor to know you........I am speechless.

Among the many people I MUST pay homage to for this journey that defines my life, your name is so at the top of the list.

Thank you for just being Heather Hale....

And I believe we are up to three bottles of Merlot.

:)
